An architectural model is a physical representation or projection of an anything that is either bigger or smaller than the actual size of the object. It intends to retain the correct proportions of the physical size in its original size. More often than not, architectural models is used as a guide to making the object in full size. Scale models are built or collected for many reasons.
The main purpose architectural models are built is to scale a landscape, a building, or a structure so that clients can easily grasp how a project would look once an architect shows this to them. Building models for example, can be strip down to show what its inside would look like and is often meticulously detailed because its aim is to show the final output in a mini-size. There are many reasons why architectural models are seen as a very useful tool in various industries:
- 1.Early mitigation of possible flaws. For architects, engineers and designers, Architectural models are considered a critical aspect of the process of building any kind of structure. Compared to blueprints and just plain illustrations, scale models gives a more accurate depiction of what the final structure would look like. If in case there might be any flaw or unintended aesthetic distractions, it is easier to identify and address them before the actual production starts. Early mitigation certainly saves time, effort, and money in the long run.
- 2.Showcase client what they are in for. Imagine how difficult if a client, after a building is finished, is not at all satisfied with it? Building models are created to avoid this kind of problem. Architectural models can provide clients a visual idea of actual structure but again, in a miniature format to guarantee that they are not only happy but most importantly satisfies with the important aspects of the aesthetics. Let’s say the client is a regular person who cannot possibly have a grasp of how blueprint works. It can be a very challenging for them to imagine the real thing by mere looking on a flat drawing.
- 3.Use as a marketing tool. This is most useful for businesses who offer design services—architectural models could be your best effort! What better way to tell the world how good you are with what you do if not by actual proof? These sort of things usually draws the attention of people. Who wouldn’t get intrigued with little buildings that will, soon enough, rise in front of their eyes? Create a better brand by investing on a strong visual impact.
Now, if you think about it, architectural models basically help people from all walks of life understand a story. It does not matter whether you are an architect or an engineer—it is made for all the likes of us. Some may just take seconds to glance at it out of curiosity but others who are perhaps interested or directly involved in the project certainly needs more than this to understand the model. The power a architectural models has demonstrated is the very reason why so many industries use them not only for client requirement but also as a tool for public communication.
